German luxury watchmaker Glashütte Original continues to engage with the art of design, presenting quintessential expressions of the Manufactory in clearly contemporary new editions: the Senator Panorama Date and Senator Panorama Date Moonphase.
The Glashütte Original in-house design team has made a number of changes to the existing models to achieve a stunning new look that is both classic and contemporary at once. The bezel has been cut back to make room for a lacquered silver-grain dial whose finely textured surface forms a sumptuous backdrop for deep black Roman numerals and a classic black railroad chapter ring. Glashütte Original’s compelling panorama date display is presented in black on an ivory ground matching the colour of the dial, and new blued-steel “poire” shaped hands enhance the elegance of the new design.
Along with the superb new dial visuals, the Saxon Manufactory’s in-house designers have made a number of more subtle but no less effective changes. The existing version uses a button at 8 o’clock to reset the panorama date; the new version replaces with button with a corrector inset in the case. The new timepieces are presented in a 40mm case both polished and brushed surfaces, either in red gold or stainless steel version, and the broader Louisiana alligator bracelet attaches in a traditional fashion. The red gold model is complemented by one in stainless steel.
The Senator Panorama Date Moonphase presents a magnificent silver moon and stars against a deep blue sky. The moonphase edition of the contemporary Senator Panorama Date presents the same set of design changes – including the lustrous lacquered silver-grain dial with black Roman numerals, black railroad chapter ring and black on ivory panorama date display – and is available, like its companion, in red gold and stainless steel versions with a matt black Louisiana alligator leather bracelet with a red gold or stainless steel foldover clasp.
The Senator Panorama Date is driven by the Saxon Manufactory’s superb automatic Caliber 100-03, the Senator Panorama Date Moonphase by the Caliber 100-04, both with a 55 hour power reserve. Easily admired through the generous sapphire crystal set in the case back, the Calibre 100 features a screw balance with 18 weighted screws in gold, twin spring barrels, swan- neck fine adjustment, skeletonized rotor with 21-carat oscillating weight, and the exquisite finishings characteristic of the Glashütte, Saxony based watchmaker.
